        Steve:

I recently went through the Zodiac correspondence systematically to identify cases where GHH could be hinting at authorship of past high-profile crimes. Here’s my list:

1968 Bates Confession Letter: BETH SHORT
        1968 Z408 Cipher: MIMI BOOMHOWER
1969 Paul Stine Letters: RAY DAVIS
1969 Bus Bomb Letter: FATHER HESLIN
1969 Melvin Belli Letter: FRANCES BROWN
1970 “My Name is” Letter: FATHER HESLIN / DONNA FRISLIE
        1970 Dragon Card: DONNA FRISLIE
1970 Button Letter, Cipher & Map: FATHER HESLIN
        1970 13-Hole Postcard: FATHER HESLIN
1970 Halloween Card: BETH SHORT, FATHER HESLIN
        1971 Pines Card: DONNA FRISLIE
1974 The Exorcist Letter: FATHER HESLIN
1974 SLA Letter + Hearst Family Letters: SISTER AIMEE
1978 Channel Nine Letter: BETH SHORT
        1990 Celebrity Cypher: SISTER AIMEE
        1990 Eureka Card: FATHER HESLIN

I give a brief summary of my reasoning for each item in my 10/29/23 Substack entry. I am here drawing on the work that you and others have done, but many of these suggested links are novel. The hints are always going to be ambiguous. GHH’s game was to walk as close to the line as possible with these hints (as with his other “clews” and puzzles), without bringing down the house on himself. It’s not hard to understand the psychology of that game. He had very good judgment about how close to the line he could get, allowing for the mental limitations of his audience. That, I suppose, came from experience.

LW: Thans again. Looks like a lot of work and research on your part. Going to take today (my birthday off) and will jump into your analysis in next day or two. Looking forward to seeing what you’ve discovered. Yes, GHH knew how to play the game way better than most, that is FOR SURE. skh
