I must say, I was one of the ones watching. I messaged Steve to ask him about 2 other possibilities. He quickly put an end to my questions. I am convinced Steve knows the real killer!
Steve, I agree with you that your father was probably involved with Elizabeth’s murder. And may have been the one who bisected her body. But I am convinced he had other accomplices, like Man Ray and more.
It is my contention that Elizabeth was an agent for the US Army Counter Intelligence Corps, the CIC.
Her work involved background investigations being done by the CIC for the Atomic Energy Commission which at the time of her death was involved in transferring and reinvestigating military and civilian personnel, contractors and university think tanks that had been in the Manhattan Project into the newly created (1946) Atomic Energy Commission.
What do we know about Elizabeth? She was in Miami Florida, Chicago (where the CIC’ Agent school was), California, back to Medford and back to Hollywood.
What was she doing? How was she living and traveling?
She never took a movie test or was even involved with the movie studios. She was not a prostitute. She didn’t smoke or drink alcohol. She dated many many men. Often only one date. And she sipped a drink, and cozied up to them., talk talk talk. Then she would split the scene. One detective said she could have made a good living as a B Girl pushing drinks on customers in clubs, but she didn’t.
I became involved in a study of her because of a book an anonymous author name “Crow” wrote about her murder and my father’s name was mentioned in connection Elizabeth and Manhattan Project scientist Robert Oppenheimer. He suggested that Elizabeth was involved in counter espionage activities. He noted that my father, William “Bud” Uanna, was the Chief of Personnel Clearance at the Atomic Energy Commission and was from Medford, Massachusetts like Elizabeth. I read Mary Pacios’ book and got a feel for Medford.
Then I discovered that my father’s house on 22 Tufts Street had intersected with Salem Street right where Elizabeth’s family lived. They lived 1/4 mile apart. Both houses were taken by eminent domain in the late 1950’s.
Her childhood sweetheart John O’Neil that she sent the teasing post card to from Hollywood, he lived on 34 Tufts Street.
Her mother Muriel worked at Stone and Webster in Boston which was the main contractor for the Manhattan Project, My father was the Army “Manhattan Engineer District” liaison to Stone and Webster,
Her oldest sister Virginia worked at MIT, the main University that was doing research on top secret government projects like radar and the Atomic Bomb and unknown to most people today it was not the FBI but the Army CIC that had the security responsibilities for these projects, She met her husband Adrian West at MIT. He was involved in Radar in the Navy during the war and they moved to Berkeley where he was a teacher at the Radiation Lab.
Her other older sister was in the military in Washington DC involved in Cryptology.
“Crow” claimed he recognizes a picture that could be Elizabeth at the estate of Haakon Chevalier a man that was central to Oppenheimer’s loss of his security clearance at a secret hearing in 1954.
I discovered that Chevalier had translated Salvador Dali’s biography into English and that Dali knew Oppenheimer.
Oppenheimer had revealed in 1943 to CIC agents that Chevalier had told him that he knew someone who could get information to the “Russians” about atomic weapons.,
Chevalier was never called to the hearing to elaborate.
Neither was my father, strange since my father had granted Oppenheimer his Q Clearance back in 1947.
Could it have been Dali that wanted to get the information? Dali admired Hitler and Franco. The secret hearing probably didn’t want to go into that in 1954 because Nazis were already secretly in South America and the in the US. Russia was our enemy now.,
Back to 1946-1947, Elizabeth’s cruising around Hollywood and came to the attention of Mark Hansen a kind hearted man who opens his house to new arrivals in Hollywood. Elizabeth won’t fit into the mold that most new arrivals do.
Did the powers that be send Leslie Dillon after her to bring her in and see what was up with her in a town where the studios said what’s what. Or was she killed because she got too close to a Fascist espionage operation now trying to penetrate the Atomic Energy Commission or was she just a pretty girl to use in a bizarre night of kinky artsy entertainment like is suggested in the book Exquisite Corpse. Was Dali there? What about Walt Disney? They had collaborated on an animated film that would never be released called Destino. The name of the woman in the film – Dalhia.
It’s still just conjecture how Elizabeth got the Black Dahlia name.?
The FBI did not want to get involved. Were they warned off the investigation? My father knew the top people in the FBI. An FBI document I acquired through an FOIA request says that he was their main source of confidential information at the Atomic Energy Commission. The Atomic Energy Act of 1946 required the FBI to take over background investigations when the Manhattan Project was transferred to the civilian AEC but the CIC continued to do them because the FBI was really not up to the task and the FBI had been on a “need to know” basis about the Manhattan Project during the war anyway.
Elizabeth worked at an Army base PX. Also at a Navy Hospital. Her beautiful, mysterious and alluring mug shot when she was arrested for underage drinking couldn’t have made a better “legend” for her.

I noticed one of the women on the show said she was the great granddaughter of Hodel (Ms Gentile) have you spoken with her about the Short murder since it seems you are related?
