“DORERO”- Newly released music-video single by Nashville Based, Hannah Aldridge and Songwriter Lachlan Bryan based on Dorothy Huston Hodel -Inspired by the Podcast “Root of Evil: The True Story of the Hodel Family and the Black Dahlia”

I was deeply moved in hearing this newly released music video, “Dorero” which is based on my mother, Dorothy Huston Hodel, known to all as “Dorero”. (My father gave her the name after they married in 1940, informing all that he derived the name from “Dor” “a gift of” and Eros-Sexual Desire.” Hence Dorero, “a gift of sexual desire.” The song, based on my mother, “Dorero” as portrayed in the podcast, “Root of Evil” was written by Hannah Aldridge and Lachlan Bryan and was just released in March, 2023. Hannah Aldridge (who is based out of Nashville) and her partner, Lachlan Bryan have created haunting lyrics and the melody brought tears to my eyes as it perfectly captures the beauty and sadness of my mother’s life. (See full lyrics below)
“I take back everything I said Dorero/I don’t believe a word I read about you..Well, I stumbled in to find that your not guilty of any crime..Dorero I’ve made up my mind about you.”
Here’s a link to the background on the real “Dorero” for which Hannah wrote and sings the song in dedication to. For those interested in my mother’s background, for which Hannah wrote the song for check out her story at the following link at my blog site. My mother, “Dorero” was first married to famed film director John Huston then after seven years divorced him and married his/their teen friend, Dr. George Hill Hodel, aka “The Black Dahlia Avenger”. Here’s the link to her back story: https://stevehodel.com/2019/02/02/dorothy-huston-hodel-1906-1983-remembrance-110th-birthday/
Take a listen.
Lyrics:
I take back everything I said Dorero
I don’t believe a word I read about you.
Well, I stumbled in to find
That you’re not guilty of any crime
Dorero,
I’ve made up my mind about you
You’re the one they always called
Dorero
But if there is a God
I’ve seen Her in you
‘Cause you never crossed that line
You never wavered at any time
Dorero,
I’ve made up my mind about you
‘Cause I was a lonely girl
And you were the kind of woman
That I didn’t know
I needed at the time
I woke up to find Dorero
Watching over me
She was everything
They said I’d never find
Now I was not so haunted then Dorero
But they believed I always had it in me
And the vultures at my door
They don’t scare me anymore
Dorero,
I’ve made up my mind about you
‘Cause I was a lonely girl
And you were the kind of woman
That I didn’t know
I needed at the time
I woke up to find Dorero
Watching over me
She was everything
They said I left behind
Oh, I was just a child
When the nightmare pulled me in
No, it’s so surreal to me now
I take back everything I said Dorero
I don’t believe a word
I read about you

Hi Steve,
Thanks for the heads up on this beautiful track. Through some contacts, I have put in place that the lyrics should hopefully soon also be available on Spotify.
Hope all well at your end,
Best,

Ps. An interesting composer for an eventual Black Dahlia series could be American artist Adam Young (know as Owl City). He’s a very talented young musician. If interested check out his 2016 scores project at: https://www.ayoungscores.com/
