A Sincere THANK YOU to my many friends and readers for their support and contributions through the decades.

November 6, 2022
Birch Bay, Washington

On this my 81st birthday I want to take a minute to sincerely thank my many friends and readers who have contributed so much support to me personally and to my ongoing investigations through the past 2+ decades.
You (too many to name individually)  have provided dozens of “clews” and “thoughtprints”  that have provided significant linkage in the chain of evidence and your strong personal support has been the main driving force that’s kept me moving forward in so many of the separate unsolved murders.

THANK YOU ONE AND ALL!

As I begin this personal “New Year” I am looking forward to what WE together may find down the block or around the next corner. Great to have you riding shotgun as we together continue to “hit the streets.”
Most Sincerely,
LAPD Det.III Steve Hodel 11394,  Hollywood Homicide  (ret.)

Thanks, Patricia. Yes, excited about what is still yet to come. Finding the clues are coming a little slower to discover at this stage, but thankfully I have so many of you out there as “partners” to help shine a light on what I miss. All best to you and yours.

Happy Birthday Detective III Steve Hodel. My Uncle, Eric Hunter, used to talk about you and your adventures together many years ago and of your Franklin Avenue home. I used to work Northeast (11A51) and I would pass that very unique home often and think of his stories. I’m an Active LAPD (Sergeant I) and he loved the connection to the Department you and I have. He would ask me about my experiences with the LAPD and reflect on your friendship together. He presented me, before his passing, your book “The Black Dahlia Avenger” which you signed for him. I would like to thank you for your years of service to the Department, your commitment to telling your story, and your friendship with Eric. It meant a lot to him. Happy Birthday!

      Hi David:
Yes, Eric Hunter was a great friend for many decades. He and my brother, Mike were very close and “kindred spirits” both super bright guys. Also loved being around your uncle Eric, constant laughs. Last saw Eric and his wife, Joanne in Bremerton, WA forget the year. So sad to hear many years ago that he passed. My condolences. Congrats on being with LAPD and making Sgt. I never worked Northeast Div, but did work Rampart, Wilshire, WLA, Van Nuys and mostly Hwd Division (17yrs). Thanks for the birthday wishes and may you and your family have a super Thanksgiving and New Year. Best, Steve

Thanks Steve. Will do. Suspect, there still are a number of strong linkage points yet to be found.
      Best to you and yours.

Happy Birthday, Steve! Thank you for the impeccable work you have done in investigating these strange and horrible murders, and for sharing your journey with us. By your intelligence, competence, honesty, and devotion to justice, you have elevated the law enforcement profession. If there were more law enforcement people like you, we would have a much higher solve rate for homicides than the current abysmal 60% average.

Hope you have many more healthy, happy years ahead!

      Laura:
Thank you Laura. Your kind thoughts are much appreciated. And, best to you and yours.

    Happy Birthday Steve,
(Rather belated I know. I haven’t checked your blog for awhile.)
I hope you are enjoying life, back in Washington. Surely the air is much better than in L.A.
You have opened us readers to an intriguing experience. Not only finally knowing who killed the Eliz. Short, but exposing the fact that the top brass knew who it was all along. You invited us to communicate with you about anything we found or thought. I now have a much expanded understanding of Surrealism, surgical sadism, tying street names to crimes scenes, and the list goes on.
    Thanks for wild ride,
    Dan

      Dan L:
      Thanks Dan.
Yes, enjoying the clean cold air up here in the NW corner of the U.S.
Last thing on my bucket list is a new partner (an adult dog to help me sniff out new clews). Hope to find one through the Humane Society by Xmas. Will see?
THANK YOU for the amazing links you found over the years. Yes, been quite a ride, and suspect not through yet. Stay tuned.
