Steve, I’m looking forward to seeing you on Dr. Phil along with your great nieces. I’m also looking forward to the new episode 7. It hasn’t uploaded to my phone yet.

I can only imagine how incredibly frustrated you must be to have so much overwhelming evidence, yet the LA PD won’t acknowledge it. Elizabeth Short’s family deserve closure and so do you and your entire family. What about reaching higher to the Governor or the FBI? Perhaps you have already tried that and I’m naive about that. You are obviously an incredible human being who has done so much to bring the truth to light. I haven’t been able to stop thinking about this podcast and my next step is to read your books. Thank you for all the work you have done.

Julia R: Thank you for the kind words. Much appreciated.
I don’t see LAPD taking any action and actually would prefer an outside lab or agency did the testing if it is ever done. LAPD could easily just say, “OK, we tested the envelop and didn’t obtain any DNA.” End of story. There are actually multiple evidentiary items that could be tested, not just the one, but they don’t even want to gake an hour for me to tell them which ones are potential linkage by DNA.
I think we will get a DNA answer in the next year or two, but my guess it will come from other crimes from other agencies. Best, Steve

    Happy Steve:

My anticipation is high for new evidence concerning this horrendous crime. I’ve been fascinated and disgusted at the extreme level of the macabre and disturbing death Elizabeth Short endured. It can’t have been easy for you all these years, but I understand your need to put closure to this once and for all. I applaud your perseverance. It also makes me wonder what more is to come to light if the LAPD decides to work with you on this case. It is still an open case. Right?!? My sincere heartfelt prayers for your continued march for the truth. I will be watching you on Dr. Phil. Godspeed.

    • Steve Hodel on March 26, 2019 at 9:10 pm

Leah K: Thank you for the kind words and prayers. Much appreciated. I doubt that LAPD will ever “work with me on the investigation” but do believe DNA will come from other law enforcement agencies as relates to other of my father’s serial crimes. Best Wishes, Steve

Steve – I do appreciate all the sacrifices you must have made in terms of your energy, your time, and even your psychological well-being to persistently and graciously unearth the truth. Looking beyond your father’s inhumane and deviant behavior, this is a true story of good overcoming evil (no matter whose blood runs through your veins). That is the impression I am left with as I just listened to the most recent episode of your great-nieces’ podcast. I hope you get the “official” closure you and your family deserve, so that this ugly burden is lifted off your shoulders. A “real” father would be very proud of you. See you this afternoon on Dr. Phil! — Julie

    • Steve Hodel on March 27, 2019 at 1:41 pm

Julie S: Thanks for the kind words Julie. Much appreciated. My reward is getting the truth of it out and known. That’s the source of any potential closure.
The knowingness that comes to distant relatives of whodunit to their long-ago family victim. The revelations from the recent “Root of Evil” podcast for me has been startling. Hearing from nieces and nephews of how much pain and suffering they went through in their youth and growing years has been heartbreaking. (We never discussed it and my contacts as their uncle were few to none back then up until the recent present.) Again, thanks for the heartfelt words. And, yes, there is much good in their bloodlines. One genetic that my father passed on to me and other family members was a STRENGTH OF WILL. Available for Good or Evil. Thankfully my kin have used it for GOOD and hopefully the DARKSIDE is now in the past for the House of Hodel. Best Regards, Steve

The pain in Fauna II’s voice is so palpable. The way she sounds reminds me of how I used to sound when I was in the most pain of my life trying to resolve my family trauma. I feel for her. I hope being reunited with some of her family is healing for her.

I have tried to listen to the latest podcast on three separate streaming sites (Spotify, Google podcast and I❤ radio)

    It will not play.

Anyone know what happened to it?

    Steve,
I saw the Dr. Phil episode. This brings the story all the more main stream. The podcast has been good & I’ve learned even more than I knew from the books & website. I knew Tamar had been damaged by being sexualized at such an early age. I have also read that the abuse continued with her, but I had no idea how bad it had gotten for her & her children. Tamar was badly damaged & who wouldn’t be after what she had been through. Unfortunately, she didn’t know how to get the help she needed and caused herself & her kids even more pain.

    All the best,
    Dan

I am totally lost on the two “Hodel Great-Grand Daughters”. Who was their Mom? And who was their grandmother? Was the grandmother raped by Dr. Hodel, the murderer? Who is the voice in the tape. I could now follow with the two great-grand daughter stories. The grandmother was the daughter of Dr. Hodel?

    • Steve Hodel on April 1, 2019 at 2:36 pm

Rika: The Root of Evil podcast is being hosted by “Yvette and Rasha” they are both daughters of Fauna Hodel. They are half-sisters, with different fathers, but same mother, Fauna Hodel. Fauna Hodel’s mother was Tamar, my half-sister and daughter of Dr. George Hill Hodel. Tamar (Fauna’s mother, Yvette and Rasha’s grandmother) had consensual sex with our father, Dr. Hodel at age 14 and he was arrested and charged with incest and child molestation back in 1949. He had a three-week jury trial and despite three adults being present during the sex acts, he was found “not guilty.”
Tamar became pregnant (not by her father, but another roomer at our home, Joe Barrett age 25) and had an abortion. Our father left the United States in 1950 for Hawaii. Tamar, after being released from Juvenile Hall was returned to her mother’s home in Nov 1950, became pregnant from “a Italian White American who took advantage of me at his apartment” and that resulted in the pregnancy of Fauna Hodel. Tamar put her up for adoption at age 15, and informed the hospital that “the father was Negro.” (He was not.) Fauna was adopted and raised by a Black family thinking she was bi-racial. She would not discover the truth until she was an adult and reunited with her mother, my half-sister, Tamar in Hawaii in early 1970s. No, Fauna was NOT FATHERED BY HER GRANDFATHER. Hope this helps understand it all. It’s complicated. Regards, Steve.

    Dear Steve,
I am in love with your work. Seen the Dr Phil ep over 100 times, no joke. I worship you and your ability to convict your own father, deeply moving! Unbelievable, mate. My heart goes out to all them wronged children out there. I’m on your side brother.
    Love,
    Jeb
