…”The highlight of the meal, at “Hope Street,” was the braised
beef short rib, sitting on top of a potato puree and blanketed with
a black mole demi-glace. A meal that had started with an all-white
egg yolk had gradually morphed into a nearly all-black entree.”

Los Angeles, California

Only in my hometown would they throw a “Last Supper” party and wonder what the murder victim ate in the hours just before she was kidnapped, sadistically tortured, raped, surgically bisected and her naked body then posed on the city street.

Here’s the article Paul Teetor (LA Weekly) wrote on the dinner held last week. I was invited but, as you can guess,  I passed.

Though native-born, not exactly my cup of tea.

Steve, Thank you for hours of riveting reading. It inspired me to research Ray Man and the Surrealists. It gave me insight into just how evil the movement was. I realize that a real believer would or could be capable of any atrocity. My question is “do you think Man Ray was complicit on the night of the Dahlia murder? Do you think there might be others as well as the Baron?
There has to be another reason that LAPD is not going forward. They have used the excuse of a lack of funds. Lets see if they can be coerced into investigating wholeheartedly. You have thousands of fans who really want some kind of closure. Lets send money to the LAPD, not only does money talk, but they will see how many are behind you.
I understand you probably have thought of all this years ago, however, if I can be of service
let me know. I lived in Santa Monica and Cheviot Hills in the 40s and now live in Burlington WA. cheek by jowl with Bellingham, where you learned the demise of your Father.

Dear Paula: Thank you for your kind words. Much appreciated and glad you have enjoyed the reads.

As to your question re. Do I think Man Ray and others were present or aware on the actual night of the murder? (Jan 14/15 1947) After completing BDA I in 2003 I would have answered unhesitatingly, NO. However, since completing MOST EVIL (2009) and BDA II (2014 updated version) and separate information yet to be made public, I am no longer sure. No question in my mind that they knew immediately after the crime, but were they present and accomplices? I still think NOT, and see them more like LAPD officers back then. They KNEW but remained silent. I think that is still the most likely scenario. I think the stronger possibility is that Baron Harringa, Fred Sexton and ???? were present during the torture/sexual assault. Certainly, all involved (after the fact) would have been in terror of what they knew GHH could/might do to them.

As far as LAPD “moving forward.” I don’t see that as ever happening. And, it’s not about money/expenses, there is nothing left to investigate other than to order and run DNA tests. Requires no real time and not much money for the testing. The simple fact is, they have no desire to confirm my findings as there is no “up side” for LAPD. They don’t want to throw mud on the badges of their two greatest heroes, Chiefs Bill Parker and Thad Brown. If they confirm my findings then they confirm that LAPD KNEW and took no action and as a result GHH was allowed to leave the country and kill and kill again. (By my count another nine victims post-1950)
So, thanks for the suggestion, but it would be futile. Besides, YOU my readers are the jury and most of you (about 90%) are convinced. That’s good enough for me.

But, on the up-side, stay tuned, expect to be releasing some new and very dramatic findings in the very near future.
Enjoy the beautiful NorthWest, which I miss a lot.

      Best Regards,

      Steve

        STEVE,

Thank you for your rapid reply, I thought it might take weeks before you could find time to answer. I PROMISE not to take advantage of your thoughtfulness. One of the best books I found on the Surrealist movement was”Lee Miller: on both sides of the camera” by Carolyn Burke. You have most likely read it, but if not, it’s worth. A read.

With so many involved, wives, doctors, prostitutes etc., and serial-killers wanting to exploit there nefarious deeds, do you think there is a treasure trove of relics, talismans, personal memoirablia that
        will surface someday, somewhere?
Did your 3 brothers have happy lives? I will not be offended if you say it’s none of my business, which it isn’t. I have a degree in psychology, and know just enough to be dangerous.

        Thanks in advance,
        Paula

Paula: Haven’t read the Lee Miller book, but saw a copy. Put it on my “to read” list.

Hard to know what might surface. I expect that anything of real value would be with June, and by now, I’m sure she would have taken his original instruction (order really) to heart and “destroyed all of his personal effects.” Chances are high that nothing remains and most of his friends who might know, are now gone.

My brothers and I did despite the chaos, have happy lives. Our mother despite her ongoing battles with “Demon Rum” managed to keep the four of us together until we reached manhood and instilled some very important qualities in her three sons that prepared us well for life. (Love for the beauty of nature, love for your fellowman, treat and respect all equally, “Do no harm” etc.) Each of her sons took a different path, but each in the line of “service to others.” Again, my best, Steve

            Steve,

No need to answer; I know how busy you are. Your Mother is going to be celestialized and you boys will be her legacy. I can say ,boys, with out impunity as I was born in the Queen of the Angels Hospital, LA. 1937. Steve, I think you have another best-seller in you; your Mother’s story begs to be told.

            Kudos, to all of you,
            PAULA

    Steve,

On U-tube they claimed that Elizabeth Short had arrested sexual organs, so she was never able to consummate any of her many relationships. She reportedly was so traumatized by her deformity that she told no one. She would lead her conquests up to a to a certain point, and then walk away before her secret was discovered. Given GHH’s rages and unable to stand rejection, could that be a
reason for the excessive mutilation? Or is there any credence in the assertion.
