  2. Kathy G. says:

Hey Steve, We’ll look forward to Black Dahlia Avenger III very soon then. This is turning out to be a busy month for a lot of reasons. Thank you for all the hard work you do!

  3. Jim Sivo says:

Really looking forward to BDA III.
Thanks Steve for all your hard work.

  4. Trey Turner says:

    Hi Steve.

Just now discovering your books and am halfway through BDA. I started it to find out about the Black Dahlia and her killer…and I was derailed by the amazing life you led growing up and the legends your family knew personally. I am a huge Man Ray fan and had no idea about the side of his life your Father was a part of. Truly amazing book and unbelievable amount of gumshoe work.

Glad to see the latest editions posted so I can get the most updated versions.

Thank you for all your hard work in bringing this evidence and these facts into the light after all these years.

    All the best

    Trey

    • Trey T: Thanks. A suggested reading order would be: BDA I, Most Evil I, BDA II (2014ed) Most Evil II and then BDA III, which I hope is out in two or three months? Thanks for the kind words. Best Regards, Steve.

        Steve

Thank you for the suggested reading order…I will definitely take your advice. And I am thrilled to hear there is going to be a BDA III!

This is kind of off topic, but do you think there would ever be a chance of a re-release of all the books (including BDA III) with standard paperback sizes and a cohesive cover theme across all books? (Like Windmill did with 9 of James Ellroy’s fiction books) I have a large True Crime library and love seeing a series on the shelf in a nice collectable set. Your books would be perfect for such a release and I’d rebuy them all in a heartbeat.

Thank you again for your time!

        Trey

        • Steve Hodel says:

Trey T: Would love to republish as you suggested with a “cohesive cover scheme”, with all matching. Maybe, down the road that could happen? FYI, I am currently working on “Book V” which is “The Early Years.” GHH’s crimes from the 20s and 30s, which will take another year or so to finish? Obviously, he didn’t wake up at age 40 and decide, “I think I’ll be a serial killer when I grow up.” Started much younger, so “stay tuned.” skh

            Steve

I am truly thrilled to hear of this new project!! As I mentioned, your family history was just as fascinating to read about as Elizabeth’s life and the LAPD investigation, and I was seriously thinking how interesting a book on your Father’s life in more detail before the Dahlia would be! I am truly excited to read this when released! As one of your newest fans and readers, i feel very fortunate you enjoy the work and time your writing requires, that we can look forward to more.

Oh, and If a reprint collection is ever in the future cards, put me on your mailing list!

            Deepest regards,

            Trey T

Just out of curiosity…have you ever played this game based around the Black Dahlia from 1998? It was actually a fantastic adventure mystery and a great game.

          • Lucas Pickford says:

Yes, The Early Years. That is the installment I’m personally very eager to read. One of the most interesting questions has been ‘When did old GHH start killing helpless women just for kicks?’ Terrible. The vast majority of the time, the public only learns of a serial killer’s last series of crimes as he/she is “finishing up” their dreadful ‘career’ of murder and darkness. Often the monster is only charged with only one or two of the unkown number of murders they’ve committed. Insipid FBI “Profilers” (an absolute absurdity and yeah I mean you John Douglas, ugh.) will gladly tell you “Yes, well we found all 6 victims and we’re very confidant there aren’t any others. In fact we interviewed (insert monsters’s name here) and we really got him to ‘open up’ to us you see. He assures us that, blah, blah, blah…utter nonsense, blah, blah, BS, BS.” You get the point. As a general rule of thumb I triple the number of known victims attributed to a serial killer and of course the true number is something that they covet greatly and I would say always take to their graves. Well at the risk of repeating myself Steve, you are the only man on earth who can even attempt to write GHH’s early years or any other years. There’s nobody else my friend. I continue to champion all of your profound work, yes profound, because think of it this way. You’re the son of the modern day Jack The Ripper. In fact GHH who was the BDA, The Lipstick, the Zodiac for christ’s sake who never caught, never jailed, and died an old man by his own hand no less, is a more terrible figure in history that even Old Jack himself in my view. Enough said. Your friend, Lucas.

  5. Steve Hodel says:

No, never played the game. No knowledge of it. skh

  6. Steve Hodel says:

Lucas P: Thanks, as always for your support. Yes, George started quite young and his killing spree lasted over fifty years, which has to be a “World Record.” As you say, makes JtR look like an amateur alright. Will be including some additional JtR “M.O./Thoughtprint” connections in BDA III which I hope will publish in about June? Best Wishes, Steve.

  7. robert cook says:

I have all your books and will get anything you write. I even have your screen play around here somewhere.

I still think there might be something to your fathers being shipped to France for a year. It fits into MKULTRA training. Breaking the mind and putting in alters. Possibly your grandparents sent him there to be conditioned they way the group approved of? The Pedophlia fits in this situation also.

And the bird window story sticks in my mind. The elite occultist believe that they are genetically from the stars…that they have a off world creation story. They do believe we are being watched by higher powers.

I think the Zodiac stuff with the cross hairs on the Naval outpost could well be an inside joke on MKULTRA which is rumored to have been done there. A joke on killing kids….there was probably never a real bomb…but a time bomb for humanity with mind control.

His escape from LA is too neat. And his retraining as a shrink that might have worked somewhat for the CIA is very interesting.

The CIA would not of found his murder and pedophilia to be a problem for them….they want people they can control.

  8. Hi Steve:

is there any possibility to get german translated versions of your books?
I´m German , living in Germany, and read BDA I (ordered from amazon) with great interest, and probably also with great misstakes in my own translation :-(.

    All the best for you.
    Deepest regards from Europe, Britta

    • Britta B: Hi Britta. Would love to have it translated into German, but so far no publisher has picked it up. It’s in Greek, French, Japanese and even Romanian, but sadly no German translation to date. Maybe if the film or miniseries adaptation happens this or next year a German publisher will decide to publish? Thanks for your regards and back at you and yours. Steve

      • robert cook says:

You have a chance of having your research made into film? This is what I was waiting for. This will get the story out to many many more minds. More brains working on this will open up the secrets for all to understand. I hope you get it done.

The truth need no defense…once the people see the mysteries your work as solved. It will become the accepted truth. Like the saying “good money chases out bad” I believe the truth will chase out the lies.

A question is the adaptation Black Dahlia? Or more of the story? Chicago Lipstick? Your fathers college years…his first love? I believe the only way to do this story justice is a miniseries. Have felt so for years. The guy who did “True Detective” I feel would be a good choice.

Good luck I will have my fingers crossed.

      • Britta Buema says:

        Hi Steve:
Thanks a lot for your information!
That no german publisher has picked up and translated your incredibly exciting, great written true crime story is totally incromprehensive, not least for economic reasons.
I´ve told friends about the story and your books and all of them are interested to read these (fortunately they understand also enough english).

Oh it would be awesome to see a longer film or limited series.
        I´m waiting forward.

All the best and regards, Britta Buema

  9. Steve Hodel says:

Robert C: Thanks. I want the story to focus on both the personal father/son relationship and the crimes, but too much (four books/ twenty-five crimes to date) to try and tell even in a limited series so likely will start with just the Dahlia and?? If it is popular, then can always follow-up with additional crimes in sequels. Best, steve
